Humane Society Of Harford Co.

The Humane Society of Harford County, Inc., is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to the welfare and well-being of the approximately 3,000 dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, livestock, rabbits, horses, rodents, wildlife, and even fish that come to us each year..

In 2019, we celebrated a 90% live release rate, one of the highest rates in the shelter’s 74-year history.

We are an open admission shelter, which means we do not turn County residents away who are looking to surrender their pet. However, we offer alternatives and counseling to try and prevent the surrender, such as free behavior consultations, a pet food bank, and other resources. These programs have helped reduce our intake by a whopping 24% in just two years, by keeping pets with the people who love them! We are not a county government agency nor are we affiliated with any national or regional organization. We rely on your support, so please donate locally!

What Our Adoptees Say About Us:

Buc- “We are very grateful for the adoption experience we had and for all of the advice given to us about introducing our new cat, Buc, to our resident kitties. We feel very lucky that Buc’s first two adoptions did not work out. He was meant to be with us. Thank you for all that you do for animals at the Humane Society of Harford County.” – Jess

Noodle- “Noodle (black and white dog at right) has settled in so well to our home environment. She’s had her big sister, Roxy, around to show her the ropes, and is absolutely thriving with our family. It’s hard to believe that we only adopted her one month ago, because she’s already such a fixture in our home. Thank you all for the hard work that you did to find us our perfect match, and for all of the hard work that you continue to do for every animal in your care.” – Emma

Milo- “My mother and I would like to thank everyone at the shelter. We had such a great experience today when we came to adopt Milo. He’s settling in nicely and has made himself at home. Thank you again for everything!” – Linda N. & Kelley M.

Rex- “Rex has brought so much joy to my life. He has been the most caring dog I’ve ever met. I love how any time I sit down he wants to come over, put his paws around me just to give me a hug and sit in my lap. Rex has definitely taught me that you’re never too busy for a good snuggle on the couch. Thank you all for all that you do!” -Brian
