Baltimore Humane Society

The Baltimore Humane Society was founded to protect our region’s pets and to address and prevent their suffering as a “no-kill” shelter.

Established in 1927 by Elsie Seeger Barton, the Baltimore Humane Society is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of the thousands of homeless animals that come through our doors each year. In addition, BHS provides comprehensive services and programs catering to all pet companionship phases.

The Baltimore Humane Society’s unwavering commitment to the animals and the community involves supplying homeless animals that enter our shelter with vital medical care, receiving essential enrichment & behavioral training, and ultimately finding nurturing, loving homes. In addition, the Baltimore Humane Society provides a wellness clinic that plays a pivotal role in extending accessible spaying, neutering, and wellness services to the public, providing quality pet care and vaccinations. The Baltimore Humane Society’s Memorial Park also offers a dignified resting place for cherished pets and holds monthly bereavement support- grief counseling services for pet loss.Among our community endeavors is the Bmore Kind Pet Food Bank, a vital resource that ensures pets receive food during periods of financial instability their owners face. The Bmore Humane Kids Club is another indispensable initiative promoting humane education among local children. The Baltimore Humane Society also works with volunteers who help out in the various shelter departments and always open their doors for more volunteers! Volunteers can assist in spay/neuter/wellness, animal care, events, fostering, data entry, and many more opportunities.Occupying close to 400 acres of land, the Baltimore Humane Society is nestled within a wildlife refuge. This vast sanctuary not only serves the society’s operations but also functions as a haven for local wildlife.

Testimonials

“I have volunteered at BHS for over a year. It is such an amazing organization! They are always mindful of what is the best for the animals! I walk dogs and there is incredible support from the trainers and other volunteers. From dog play groups to runs that are separate from the kennels, people are always working to try and make the dogs stay as stress-free as possible. They also work hard with potential adopters to make the best match possible. Providing support even after a dog is adopted. Can’t recommend them enough!” – rmjyflynn (Source:GreatNonProfits.org)

“The Baltimore Humane Society was absolutely amazing in helping me rescue my sweet boy Dex. Their facility is beautiful and well-kept, the staff is super helpful and they give you access to a professional trainer. They went above and beyond to make the adoption process go as smoothly as possible. I would recommend them to anyone looking to adopt.”-Kurt213 (Source: GreatNonProfits.org)
